A Totally Unique and Very RARE Piece!

A fabulous and very rare Antique Art Deco Egyptian Revival SCARAB BEETLE, hand-crafted chunky pendant necklace. The large sized scarab has been hand-carved from mother of pearl and horn. The mother of pearl is beautifully iridescent, with rainbow colours whenever it catches the light. It is such a Rare and Unusual piece – I have never seen anything quite like it. Just clip the pendant onto your own chain.
There is a tiny bit of surface wear where the two wings meet at the wingtips, where the mother of pearl is very thin, but this is barely noticeable unless scrutinising with a jeweller’s loupe (please see penultimate photo). It doesn’t in my opinion detract in any way from its immense charm.
There have been many Egyptian Revivals, but probably the most notable was in the 1920’s when King Tutankhamun’s tomb was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922. This generated an enormous amount of interest and the world went crazy for all things with an ancient Egyptian theme.
