Ideal for a Bride on Her Wedding Day
A FABULOUS and very rare GIULIANO FRATTI vintage double strand imitation pearl necklace, with a fabulous statement clasp. A gloriously extravagant necklace, made up of two rows of pale cream glass ‘pearls’ which have a beautiful lustre. These have been painstakingly cleaned and are in fantastic condition.
The pearls are hand-knotted, denoting high quality. The necklace fastens with a huge yellow and white gold plated, diamante encrusted foldover clasp, set with pearls. This can be worn to the side, or towards the front, to show it off. All of the diamante stones are present, although some have darkened a little over time. The foldover clasp closes with a reassuring click. Signed with the ‘GM’ signature (for Giuliano Milan) on the reverse of the clasp.
The only thing of note is that there is an extra hole on either side of the clasp, which may indicate that there could have been a third row originally (please see penultimate photo). The necklace came to me like this and I have only just noticed, after all this time! It looks perfect as it is, so maybe this was just the way it was made.
Highly sought after Milan based Italian designer, Giuliano Fratti, produced standout pieces for Dior, Chanel and Worth, along with other haute couture fashion houses, from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. His pieces are hard to find and rarely come up for sale. This is a fabulous find for any collector!
The necklace is a lovely long length. Measurements:
The shortest row: 30.5″ or 77.5cm including the clasp
Longest row: 32″ or 81cm including the clasp
