A really fabulous and unusual antique Art Deco JAKOB BENGEL Chrome and Uranium Glass beads necklace. The beads are a lovely ‘carved’ pumpkin, or melon shape, in vibrant chrysoprase green, which really stands out against the shiny chrome. The metalwork has some great detailing. The beads glow bright green under a UV light – this is due to the trace uranium content, which is worth noting is totally harmless. I have come across just a handful of Jakob Bengel necklaces with Uranium glass beads – they are extremely rare and highly collectable.
The necklace fastens with a bolt ring clasp. There is some minor wear to the chrome plating in a couple of places, mainly at the joining rings, but nothing which detracts in any way from its immense charm – it is in wonderful condition for very nearly 100 years old. From Idar-Oberstein in Germany.
