Fabulous vintage waterfall cascasding brooch, with bicolour glass beads in blue & green, peking glass beads, glass pearls, amethyst rhinestones, two sparkling foil glass beads with gold aventurine, a uranium glass bead and a lovely art glass striated dropper. The brooch back is a gold plated honeycomb structure, often used in Miriam Haskell pieces. This really is a very unique and eye-catching piece and I am sure you won’t find another quite like it. It isn’t signed, but much of her work wasn’t, and I will leave it to you to decide.
Some of the gold plating is a little worn here and there, and there are signs of old glue (only noticeable on the enlarged photos, not when wearing). Also one of the amethyst rhinestones is set at a jaunty angle, and there is some cat gut thread tied through the mesh and knotted at the back. I am not sure why this is there, but it all seems secure. It is a wonderful piece and there is nothing which detracts in any way from its immense charm.
The brooch fastens with a rollover safety catch, which is secure, if a little fiddly until you get used to it. One of the beads has trace uranium content, which is totally harmless, but makes it glow bright green under a UV light.
