Vintage WEDGWOOD of Etruria & Barlaston Embossed Queens Ware Trumpet Vase 1950s Neoclassical Cream with Lavender Blue Embossed Grape Vines
Backstamp Dated 1951
A striking 1950’s take on a neoclassical form, this early example trumpet vase by Wedgwood is in cream, with an intricate embossed lavender blue grape vine design. Part of the Queen’s Ware collection – it features a glossy off white glaze over an earthenware body. This beautifully accentuates the minimalist, neoclassical silhouette. While other shapes followed, this trumpet vase, remains a mid-century Wedgwood classic.
It took me quite some time to notice that the vase has a hairline on the base (please see last two photos). This is very old and stable and barely noticeable unless scrutinising – it can easily to be turned to the back when on display. It doesn’t in my opinion, detract in any way from its immense charm.
This is an early example of this particular Wedgwood vase – it has belonged to my family since it was new.
