A FABULOUS vintage Art Deco Bohemian Czech satin uranium glass chunky oval beads necklace. The colour is a beautiful blonde caramel/custard, with a gorgeous pink blush. The beads have a wonderful iridescent pearlised satin sheen, with swirls running through – think old-fashioned boiled sweets, like the ones Granny used to give you. Or a luscious dessert with home-made custard and fruit swirled through. Under UV light the beads fluoresce green. This is due to the trace uranium content, which is miniscule and totally harmless – done to bring out the colours and make them more vivid, both in natural light and under UV light.
The beads graduate in size and are wonderfully chunky towards the centre. They are on rolled gold wire and fasten with a shepherd’s hook clasp. There is a small chip, which is very old & smooth on one of the beads, barely noticeable unless scrutinising. This doesn’t in any way detract from its immense charm and is mentioned for accuracy (please see penultimate photo). Hand-made by Artisans in the historic Kingdom of Bohemia.
